The Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) was established in the early 1995. Its formation was informed by the need to bring all registered firms of Urban and Regional Planning in Nigeria under an umbrella. The Association which started with pioneering member firms of less than 20 now has over 100 organizations as members. ATOPCON has an umbilical cord relationship with the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC), the regulatory body for the profession. Within the period of its establishment, it has contributed immensely to evolvement of various policies and programs that concern physical planning education research and practice. It has Branches in Delta, Oyo and Lagos States.Its activities are executed by elected officers who report to the National Council and to members at the Annual General Meeting. The largest concentration of ATOPCON membership is in Lagos State, the nation’s commercial capital.
